Position Overview
The Head of Patent Operations will play a critical role in leading and managing all aspects of patent-related operations for the firm. Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee and manage the entire patent lifecycle, including patent drafting, filing, prosecution, commercialization, and portfolio management.
- Ensure strict compliance with Indian and international patent laws (PCT, USPTO, EPO, and others).
- Develop and implement streamlined workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce turnaround time.
- Act as a liaison between internal teams (attorneys, analysts, drafters) and external stakeholders (clients, IP offices) to ensure quality and timely deliverables.
Client Engagement and Strategic Advisory
- Provide expert strategic advice to clients on patent protection, prosecution, and commercialization across jurisdictions.
- Analyze client portfolios to maximize commercial potential and align IP strategies with their business objectives.
- Identify opportunities for additional services, long-term client retention, and global business expansion.
Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing team of patent professionals, including attorneys, engineers, and paralegals.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning through structured training, certifications, and upskilling programs.
- Encourage collaboration and innovation while driving team excellence.
Business Development
- Partner with the business development team to handle incoming projects and identify new opportunities.
- Represent the firm at industry conferences, webinars, and client engagement forums to build brand credibility.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients and industry stakeholders.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
- Maintain the highest standards of quality for all deliverables, ensuring technical and procedural excellence.
- Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify areas for improvement in patent processes and operations.
- Stay updated on global patent laws and industry trends to ensure compliance and relevance.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, or Science.
• Registered Patent Agent with the Indian Patent Office.
• Advanced qualifications (e.g., LLB, LLM, MBA in IP Management) will be a plus.
Experience
• Minimum of 8+ years of experience in patent operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Proven expertise in Indian and international patent systems, including PCT, USPTO, and EPO filings.
• Experience in handling large patent portfolios and working with clients across diverse industries.
Technical and Managerial Skills
• Strong knowledge of patent drafting, prosecution, and commercialization.
• Familiarity with tools like IP management software and AI-based patent analytics platforms.
• Excellent leadership, project management, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Compensation and Benefits
• Annual CTC: ₹18,00,000 to ₹36,00,000 (based on experience and qualifications).
