  • Reports To: Patent Operations Manager / Head of Intellectual Property
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in patent drafting, filing, and prosecution.

Position Overview: As a key member of our Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) team, the Patent Agent / Patent Engineer is tasked with drafting and filing patent applications, conducting patentability searches, responding to office actions, attending Hearings and providing strategic IP advice to clients. This role demands a blend of technical expertise and legal knowledge, making it suited for individuals with a strong foundation in engineering or science and an understanding of patent law. Embrace the advantage of optional remote work, enabling you to perform your duties from home for up to 80-90% of the month, thus promoting a balanced and flexible work-life integration.

The Outcome expected from this position:

As a part of our team the Patent agent or patent engineer is expected to handle the following tasks single-handedly:

  • Conduct discussions with inventors to understand the invention disclosure.
  • Perform thorough novelty searches, prior art searches, freedom-to-operate searches, patent invalidity searches, and other relevant searches.
  • Prepare high-quality patent applications, both provisional and complete, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to legal requirements and guidelines.
  • Handle examination reports and office actions by providing well-reasoned technical arguments, both in written and verbal forms, to support the patentability of the invention.
  • Attend hearings with the patent office, presenting arguments and addressing any queries or objections from the patent examiner.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in patent laws, rules, and regulations, and effectively apply them to ongoing projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including inventors, attorneys, consultants and clients, to ensure the smooth execution of patent projects.
  • Hire and train a team of patent associates to work on patent projects in coordination or independently

Qualifications and relevant experience

  • Preference would be given to Registered Patent Agents in India (not mandatory)
  • Minimum 2 Years of experience needed in Patent drafting and patent prosecution projects
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation, Electronics, or a relevant field (Excluding chemistry or life sciences, Pharma)
  • Proven experience in patent prosecution and handling a variety of patent-related tasks.
  • In-depth knowledge of patent laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of patent drafting techniques and strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A high level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

Compensation

A competitive package reflective of your experience and qualifications, generally within the range of INR 5,00,000 to INR 12,00,000 per annum.
