  • Reports To: Head of Intellectual Property / Director of IP
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in patent prosecution or IP management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.

Position Overview: The Senior Associate Patent – Sr. Patent Agent is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the patent department, ensuring efficient workflow, compliance with national and international patent laws, and the alignment of patent strategies with the firm’s business goals. This role requires a proactive manager who can oversee a team of patent professionals, streamline patent application processes, and maintain a robust portfolio management system. We offer the flexibility of optional remote work, allowing for up to 80-90% of work to be done from home each month, providing our employees with a healthy work-life balance and the ability to work in a comfortable and personalized environment.

The Outcome expected from this position:

As a part of our team the Senior Associate Patent – Sr. Patent Agent is expected to handle the following tasks single-handedly:

  • Patent Process Management: Oversee the entire lifecycle of patent applications, from initial drafting to grant. Ensure that all patent filings are completed accurately and within the prescribed deadlines.
  • Team Leadership: Manage a team of patent agents, engineers, and administrative staff. Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide training and development to enhance their skills. Leverage remote management tools to maintain team cohesion and productivity, regardless of physical location.
  • Workflow Optimization: Implement and continuously improve workflow processes to increase efficiency within the patent department. Utilize technology and software tools for patent portfolio management.
  • Compliance and Quality Control: Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international patent laws and regulations. Oversee quality control of patent applications and documentation.
  • Conduct discussions with inventors to understand the invention disclosure.
  • Perform thorough novelty searches, prior art searches, freedom-to-operate searches, patent invalidity searches, and other relevant searches.
  • Prepare high-quality patent applications, both provisional and complete, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to legal requirements and guidelines.
  • Handle examination reports and office actions by providing well-reasoned technical arguments, both in written and verbal forms, to support the patentability of the invention.
  • Attend hearings with the patent office, presenting arguments and addressing any queries or objections from the patent examiner.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including inventors, attorneys, consultants and clients, to ensure the smooth execution of patent projects.
  • Hire and train a team of patent associates to work on patent projects in coordination or independently

Qualifications and relevant experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Instrumentation, Electronics, or a relevant field (Excluding chemistry or life sciences, Pharma)
  • Registered Patent Agent with the Indian Patent Office preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in patent prosecution or IP management, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Indian and international patent laws and procedures.
  • Proficient in patent research and analysis tools, and IP management software.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Compensation

A competitive package reflective of your experience and qualifications, generally within the range of INR 9,00,000 to INR 20,00,000 per annum.
